+Eating sage everyday will make you live longer.  If you carry it you’ll gain wisdom.  Fill a horn with sage for protection.  Scatter sage before casting spells or ritual work for protection.  It’s bad luck to plant your own sage or to plant it by itself.  Toads favorite plant.

+Sloe over doorways or carried wards off evil and calamity, banishes evil and dispels negative vibes.  The wood can be made into diving rods and magic wands.

+Spanish Moss can be grown in or on the home for protection.

+Eating, carrying or wearing sunflower seeds aids in conception.  The selenium in the seeds fights cancer.  Wear the seeds for protection from smallpox.  A modest wish made at sunset while cutting a sunflower will be granted by the next sunset.  Under the bed sunflower seeds reveal the truth.  Anointing in the juice from the stems will increase virtue.  Grown in gardens, sunflowers, protect from pests and give luck to the gardener.

+Thistle, or an image of a thistle, worn conveys protection, break spells and hexes, decre4saes melancholy and makes a man a better lover.  Carry for strength and energy.  A bowlful of blooms in the house will raise spirits and increases vitality.  In the garden thistles detour thieves.  Potted on the doorstep thistles defend from evil.  Burnt they deflect lightning.  User the tallest thistle in the patch for a wand or staff.  Boil pieces to call the spirits while meditating on a question you want to ask.  The steam will carry away your question and the spirits will give you an answer.

+Turmeric is used for purification and protection in food and around the house.

+Carry or wear valerian root for protection.  Calms an arguing couple.  Under your pillow it will help you sleep.  Keep it under your window to prevent evil from entering.  Powdered root can be used in place of graveyard dirt.  A woman should wear it to gain attentions of the opposite sex.

+Vervian, more commonly known as verbena, is carried for love, protection, peace, money, youth, chastity, sleep and healing.  Place a sachet in a baby’s cradle and the baby will grow up happy and have a love of learning.

+Nettle stuffed in sachets returns spells.  It protects when scattered around the house.  Throw some into a fire to avert danger.  A nettle amulet keeps negativity at bay.  Fresh cut nettles will aid in healing.  Bathe with nettles to cleanse.  Mixed with yarrow, nettle conveys bravery.

+Two Oak twigs bound, like a cross, with red string serves as a protective emblem.  Carry oak to prevent harm.  Burning oak in the house draws out any illnesses.  Keep an acorn in your pocket to promote youth, health and luck.  Planting an acorn in the dark of the moon ensures monies receivable soon.

+Eating olives provide fertility, potency and increases lust.  Branches protect the house from evils and wearing the leaves prevents bad luck.  Write “Athena” on an olive leaf and press against forehead to cure headaches.  Olive oil is healthful and aids in healing.  It is also useful for potion and ointment bases.  Leaves resonate peaceful vibrations.

+Carrying, wearing or growing onion blossoms will shield against evil.  Halving or quartering onions then placing them throughout the house will absorb negative energy.  Burn the peelings to attract prosperity.  Rub a cut onion over sore muscles and to relive general aches and pains.  Bury the onion and as it rots so to will your pains diminish.  Tie a red onion to your bedpost to maintain health.  Keep it under your pillow for prophetic dreams.  For magical advise carve your options into onions… one option per onion.  Put the onions in the closet.  The one that blooms first is your best choice.

+Peony’s are useful to cure the insane and for protection.  Harvest only at night when the seeds glow.

+Plum branches over windows and doors will protect the home from evil intrusion.  Eat plums for inspiration and to maintain love.

+Carry a potato, the same one, all winter to avoid illness.

+In the garden Primrose protects the house and attracts fairies.  Wearing the bloom prevents and cures madness.  Sew the flowers into a child’s pillow to ensure respect and loyalty.

+As one of the most healthful herbs, garlic can be applied topically, ingested, carried or hung in the house for general protection. In gardening garlic repeals many common pests. Beware though, the strong flavor will bleed over into less fragrant plants.

+Geraniums have many magical uses & a rich folklore unto themselves. Red geraniums were once called the witches plant & used as a kind of a calling card in the witches front garden, they are especially protective and improve health. When mixed with pepper tree branches and fresh rue, red geraniums produce a healing salve. Pink geraniums are used in love spells while white geraniums are used for fertility. Rose geraniums, carried in sachets, rubbed on doorknobs or carried provide protection. Geraniums that smell like lemons have the same attributes as the lemon plant and the same goes for peppermint scented, nutmeg scented and the like.

+Gourds hung at the door protect against fascination. Carried, they ward off evil. They can also be made into protective rattles and serving bowls.

+Scatter grain around the bedroom for protection.

+Carrying grass will increase your psychic ability. Tied and hung in widows grass will protect the house. To wish with grass rub against a rock until it turns green then bury the rock or cast into running water. When the green wears off your wish will come true.

+Carry Heather for protection.  Burn Heather outdoors to bring rain and indoors to call spirits.

+Holly is planted for protection from all ills and is carried by men for good luck. Women should only carry ivy for luck as these are the plants genders.

+Larkspur keeps away ghosts while frightening scorpions and other poisonous creatures.

The more you work with herbs the more you can find out what works for you.  It seems that what works best for me does not necessarily work for my children, sister or husband.  I think it has something to do with our elemental alignment and physical make up.  Nothing works better than trial and error to discover what works best for you. +Wear acacia barrettes for protection & psychic powers or hang a twig above the bed.

+African Violets grown in the house promote spirituality & offer some protection.

+Agrimony (cockleburs) banish negative energies, return spells to sender & break hexes; sew into protection satchels.

+Aloe is a protective plant displayed & grown throughout the world for good luck & prosperity.

+Anemones, red in particular, protect the garden they are grown in… as well as the home. Use the blooms in all healing rituals.

+Ash trees are representative of the Celtic tree of life, Ygdrasill. Ash carved into the shape of a cross will keep ocean voyagers safe from drowning. Leaves under a pillow bring prophetic dreams while carried in a satchel the leaves provide protection. A staff of Ash over a doorpost also provides protection. Snakes are repelled by Ash & to burn Ash at Yule provides the household with a prosperous year.  Ash is known to call lightning.

+Aspen leaves under the tongue provide elegance when speaking & a tree on the property provides protection from thieves.

+Avens are used to sprinkle holy water during exorcisms & for purification when made into incense. An aven amulet protects the wearer from venomous beasts.

+Bamboo over a door brings luck. Plant it in the yard for protection. When carried, grown or used as incense it removes hexes.

+Bay leaf tea aids in clairvoyance. Placed under the pillow bay induces prophetic dreams. Burned as incense Bay causes visions. As an amulet, burnt & scattered or as incense, Bay is great for protection & purification as it wards off evil spirits. Placed in the window Bay protects against lightning. Hung in the house it keeps poltergeists at bay. Bay tree planted near the house protects against illness. Mixed with sandlewood, bay can remove hexes. Worn it can provide strength and cunning. Carried in the mouth Bay brings luck. If a couple breaks a twig from a bay tree then divides it, each partner keeping half, love will stay.

+Beans are dried then carried as an amulet for protection from negativity. In rattles they scare away evil spirits. To end a disagreement with your partner string three lima beans on a silk thread and wear it for three days. Problems will be smoothed over. Beans help to cure impotency if carried or eaten. To remove warts rub a dry bean on the wart during the waning moon & say, “As this bean decays, so wart, fall away!”

+Birch is a protective wood:  grown, carried, burned or made into a wand.

+Blackberries & their leaves are used in money spells as well as lending protection when grown on the property. To heal a burn take nine of the leaves and dip them in rosewater and place on the burn while saying (3x for each leaf) “Three ladies came from the East, one with fire & two with frost, out with the fire, in with the frost.”

+Blueberries protect. Placed under a doormat they prevent evil entry, eaten they rid negative influence.

+Bromeliad’s help bring in money & luxuries. They are also protective.

+Burdock wards off negativity, adds protection & protects against evil. It can be worn or cast around the house. The leaves placed on the soles of the feet cure gout.

+Cacti spines provide protection by absorbing negative energy & repelling malevolent spirits.

+Caraway seeds protect from evil & illness as well as strengthening memory. Chew the seeds to gain the love of the one you desire. Place a small bag of seeds in a child’s bed to protect them from illness.

+Carnations are used in all purpose protection and healing spells (red are best). Place dried flowers in sachet for healing as well.

+Castor beans protect against the evil eye & absorb evil.

+Cedar burned in the house will purify the space & prevent bad dreams. To cure a cold the twigs are placed on hot rocks in sweat lodges. Hung in the home it protects against lightning strikes. In the wallet is draws money. It can be used in love & money incenses as well as to induce psychic powers.

+Chamomile (Roman & German) is used as tea to relax, as hand wash to draw money, in the bath to attract love, sprinkled around the house to remove curses & spells plus grown around the house for protection.

+Use in love spells or to ignite passion. Red chili peppers scattered around the house protect all within. For chastity bind two chili peppers together with red or pink ribbon, then place under your pillow.

+Chrysanthemum tea sobers a drunk. In the garden it protects from evil spirits. Worn it protects from the wrath of the gods.


+Cinnamon is useful in money spells & potions, raises spiritual vibration, stimulates psychic powers & protects.

+Cloves purify, protect, attract riches, produce spiritual vibrations, stop gossip, comfort mourners & attract the opposite sex.

+White clover works against harmful magic. Use red clover in lust potions, to remove negative vibrations & to bring money. Three leaf clovers are especially protective. Four leaf clovers are lucky in detecting spirits, finding money & treasure, preventing madness & increasing psychic powers. Snakes hate clovers.

+A split coconut stuffed with protective herbs & buried will protect an entire property. Hung dried husks are protective too.

+Comfrey protects the traveler. Root is useful in money spells too.

+Cumin protects from theft. Burnt cumin mixed with frankincense then scattered drives away evil. Promotes fidelity when given to significant other. Carried for peace of mind. Plant when angry to get a good crop.

+Hang dill over the door to keep ill wishers & envious persons from entering. Carry it for protection, too. Useful in money spells. Bathe in it to be irresistible & smell it to cure hiccups.

+Dogwood leaves & bark are used as protective amulets. If sap is collected on a kerchief, on Midsummer’s Eve & faithfully carried it will grant one wish.

+An Ebony wand denotes unadulterated power & the wood is carried as a protective amulet.

+Use Eucalyptus leaves for healing poppets. Carry leaves to maintain health & for protection. Use 1 pt essence mixed with water 7 pts water as a spray to kill dust mites & increase respiratory health of your family.

+Burn Fern in the house for protection & to drive out evil spirits. Burn outdoors to bring rain, drive away snakes & noisy creatures. Carry or wear it to find buried treasure. Carry the seeds for invisibility. Ingesting the sap is said to encourage youthfulness.

+To use fig leaves in divination write your question on the leaf. If the leaf dries slowly your answer is what you had hoped for. If the leaf dries quickly then the outcome will not be the one you desire. Keep figs in the kitchen to ensure the family never goes hungry & in the bedroom to restful sleep. Fig anywhere else in the house provides the grower with protection & good luck.

+Poisonous Foxglove can be made into a protective black dye as well as protect the home & garden when grown on the premises.

+Frankincense incense removes evil spirits & vibrations, raises spiritual vibrations & improves the mood. It also aids in meditation, visions & spiritual growth as well as providing protection & luck.
